1000D Festival of Art is a growing series of conversations, particularly with our diverse art aisle sponsors and eclectic curators from the fine art, film and TV world.

Supporting 1000D through doodling and now an art aisle. Global award-winning advertising agency McCann 1886 are good people – inquisitive, passionate and persistent. Curator of their art aisle is Stu Stobbs, CCO at McCANN1886. Stu started in advertising in the 90s after a failed drag queen career. He’s worked above, below and all around the line. He’s won numerous local and international awards including Cannes, Caples and Loeries and has judged extensively.

Legendary suppliers of the A to Z of new and used photographic equipment – as well as supporting photographers wherever they can. Curating for them in their art aisle will be Heleen SwartGallerist at Rosebank Photo Gallery, FotoZA – a KAMERAZ initiative. Heleen has orchestrated many high-profile photography exhibitions, showcasing many renowned photographers.

Also – 1000D supporters from Day 1.Their art aisle curator is the gallery owner, Darryl George Gray, who is a passionate enabler of local talent opening up opportunities for artists.

Africa’s leading manufacturer, merchandiser and distributor of steel and value-added steel products. Not only are Macsteelers doodling up a storm, the business is sponsoring FIVE art aisles. Their curators are:

An academic, art administrator and Curator at Wits Art Museum (WAM). Kutlwano is also finishing her postgraduate degree in Heritage, Museum and Preservation studies. In her practice Kutlwano is interested in the intersection of polylogues existent in contemporary art practices in South Africa

A full-time artist and a curator who works with mixed media drawings and sculpture. Olwethu is the co-founder of The For Sale Project Exhibition and  The Blessing Ngobeni Art Prize.

The curator making their art aisle incredible will be Executive Creative Director Thembalethu Msibi who currently leads the Integrated Creative teams for key clients at Wunderman.

A darling group of photographers, chefs, writers, fashion mavens and documentarians whose are aisle will be curated by Louis Minnaar. Louis is a director, editor and animator as well as a fine artist, making work that ranges from illustrative to abstract to installation pieces.

Positioning creativity as an investment, Grid becomes obsessively involved in their client’s business which results in a shift to a value-based remuneration model, emphasising amazing results. Their art aisle curator will be Jineil Kandasamy. Jineil is a Creative Partner and Director at Grid Worldwide and with only five years’ experience in the industry, has already played a key role in some of the world’s biggest brands. 

Envelopes as Art

The visionary people at STAEDTLER are sponsoring our beautiful 1000D envelopes, which you will treasure as a keepsake as they are a work of art in themselves. There will be FIVE designs in the 2020 envelope range done by a young upcoming artist and all created with the STAEDTLER range of art materials and stationary. Plus – our beneficiary partner – Timbuktu in the Valley will host craft workshops with STAEDTLER donated FIMO Modelling Clay.
